Human beings are complicated creatures and it is rare that someone is struggling with a problem that has an easy, straight forward solution. It happens, of course, but not often. If there were a clear and obvious solution to their predicament, people would generally have figured it out by themselves.

Other self-help books on the market are too complicated. They are often written by researchers who forget who their audience is. We all live busy lives with limited time to read and a book is of little use if we regularly have to consult the Oxford Dictionary of Psychology in order to fully understand what it says.

One self-help book that I think would be worth your time is “Rewire Your Brain: Think Your Way to a Better Life” by John Arden. The more we understand how we’re build, the better we’re able to negotiate our (biological) weaknesses and work with our strengths. “Rewire Your Brain” is easy to read and understand and it gives you clear, practical advice on how to decrease stress, anxiety and depression as well as how to increase general well-being. Finally, the book summarises what we know about brain-health and gives sensible suggestions on how to look after your brain.

I think you will enjoy this book. I know I did.

My problem with a number of self-help books is that they give simplistic solutions to complex problems. The best outcome with these types of books is that they are no help whatsoever but the worst is that they can make a … Continue reading →

[9

post-608","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-therapy-notes
["GET
